Founded in 2001, we are a not for profit charitable organization with a long-term goal to build an arts-centred community hub (called ARCH – Arts, Recreation, Community Hub). Our vision is one embedded in community strength and connectivity: multiple users with accessible opportunities to learn, play, create, share, and grow a local/global community, founded on a shared leadership model.
The ARCH is a part of the International Avenue Arts and Culture Centre (IAACC) who connects, empowers and enriches our community through arts and culture. We are situated on International Avenue, and we celebrate and support the rich ethnocultural diversity that thrives in Calgary’s Greater Forest Lawn communities.
Our current initiatives include:
- Calgary Multicultural Orchestra (CMO) – a free after school program for youth situated in Greater Forest Lawn; based on a proven social-change model called ‘el sistema’ that uses music as an agent of social development.
- Eyes on the Ave is a partnership between Springboard Performance, Antyx and IAACC bringing community-based programming and photography to the ARCH site featuring placemaking using shipping containers.
- The ARCH on International Avenue– building on these projects, we are exploring collaborations and partnership possibilities to create shared space for arts, recreation and community events.
- ‘The GREAT in Greater Forest Lawn’ : in a 3-way partnership between the International Avenue BRZ, The United Way, and IAACC, this grassroots, citizen-led granting initiative provides seed funding to 7-12 citizen-led, creative community-building ideas annually. Community members present ideas that are voted on by the community.
IAACC is a not for profit charitable organization (Canadian registered charity number: 869328310RR0001). To make a charitable tax-deductible donation, click here. (receipts will be issued for donations over $25).
